Mythology is the study of or a collection of myths. Myths help people understand how they are supposed to live according to the religion of that myth. They are slowly becoming more and more obsolete, along with other religious aspects. In todays society people think of myths as something you only learn in history class, but many things have been influenced by myths throughout history, they have shaped religion and whole civilizations, like the romans and the Greeks. without myths these civilizations wouldn't have been nearly as memorable or great as they are.
