The dustbowl occurred in the 1930's in the prairie lands of North America. It was a severe drought caused by numerous things; Especially farming, without crop rotation so the soil was very dry and packed. At times in these places fierce winds blew all the dust up into the air creating huge devastating dust storms that darkened the sky. People in the area were even more unable to grow crops. They were forced to leave their homes seeking jobs and shelter elsewhere.
